Following the Farm to Fork Summit at Downing Street earlier this year, the need for improved energy security and support for the protected horticulture sector was recognised. Since then, the NFU have been focusing some lobbying efforts to help see this pledged support realised.
In a big win for the sector, controlled environment horticulture businesses are now to be included in the Industrial Energy Transformation fund (IETs). The IETS is designed to help businesses with high energy use to cut their energy bills and carbon emissions through investing in energy efficiency and low carbon technologies. So, being included in the fund enables controlled environment horticulture businesses to gain a higher tier of government support with ~£185 million available under the third round of funding.
This is good news for horticulture and we will keep any eye on how eligible businesses can register to access this fund.
